Bruno Mars

The pop singer met the man he’s nicknamed after: former pro wrestling champ Bruno Sammartino. The two met Tuesday when Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour stopped in Pittsburgh. Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez, was nicknamed “Bruno” by his father after his favorite wrestler because he was a “chunky” baby. Sammartino, 81, said he was “extremely impressed” by Mars. “He was the most humble, nicest guy.” Mars posted a picture on Instagram saying, “I was nicknamed after this professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. Tonight in Pittsburgh I had the honor of meeting him!”

England’s all-time leading international scorer retired from national team service, spurning an offer to return to the squad. “I believe now is the time to bow out,” the former England captain said in a statement. “I will always remain a passionate England fan.” A return to form since leaving Manchester United to go back to Everton had England manager Gareth Southgate interested, but the 31-year-old striker has decided to focus on his club career, quitting England duty with a record 53 goals in 119 appearances — more than any other outfield player.
