Beyonce and Jay-Z are the experts in releasing private information at a moment that suits them, and just like the announcement of Bey’s pregnancy and sharing the first image of her twins a month later, Jay-Z has time a rare interview with a reveal of the official meaning behind their family’s newest addition’s names.

In the interview with Rap Radar, Jay-Z said that while Rumi’s name was always a front favourite, choosing Sir was more of a spontaneous decision.

Jay Z, and Beyonce have finally confirmed the meaning behind their twins’ names.

“Rumi is our favourite poet, so it was for daughter,” the rapper explained two months after the birth of the twins. Rumi was a 13th-century Sunni male Muslim poet and Islamic scholar, and despite being born more than 800-years-ago, his poetry on love is still a bestseller in the US, according to the BBC.

Sir’s name, meanwhile, was chosen on the fly according to his attitude.

“Sir was like man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out like, ‘Sir,'” Jay-Z said.

This isn’t the first official word from the family’s circle however, with Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles-Lawson seemingly commenting on Rumi’s name via an Instagram post on July 16. Along with poetic inspiration from Rumi, she wrote, “This is poetry by the 13th century poet “Rumi,” it’s not only beautiful but logical love number three.”

“Sometimes we are the reason we can’t find love!! We have to work on ourselves first to be whole.”

During the interview Jay-Z also revealed that his whole family would be joining him on tour, with the rapper purposely organising his tour schedule to have maximum time to bond with his new arrivals before he hits the road.

“I booked the tour for October so I could have at least four months… to just really bond and see their fingers and s— like that”

He added that while the twins would be on tour with him, it’s about having “a space where I’m not doing nothing. I’m just focused on them.”

While the Carter family have not shared a family photo together, both the rapper and Beyonce have taken to social media to share images of their quality time together and with Blue Ivy, 5.

With the interview released in two parts, Jay-Z also candidly discussed his disappointment in former collaborator and friend Kanye West, and opened up about his elevator scuffle involving Solange after last year’s VMA music awards, saying that pair have always and still have a “great relationship.”

“She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period,” he said during part one of the interview.

“I fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space. But it ain’t nothing.”
