Ahead of its public debut at the Geneva motor show next month, the Volvo V60 mid-size wagon has been revealed with new technology, overhauled styling and two new hybrid powertrains.
To look at the all-new V60, one could easily mistake it for the larger V90 wagon that was launched early in 2016. This is no coincidence, as the new mid-sizer shares much of its structure – or ‘Scalable Product Architecture’ (SPA) in Volvo language – with the entire Volvo 90 Series and even the XC60 SUV.
The new platform translates to a 126mm stretch from bumper to bumper, making it one of the biggest wagons in its class at 4761mm in length.
Volvo says the move to the SPA platform offers “increased levels of space, advanced connectivity”, as well as Volvo Cars’ latest driver support systems and other safety technology.
The claim of increased space stands to reason with the wheelbase now stretched 96mm to a total 2872mm. The maximum luggage space figure is 841 litres with the rear seats in place.
The new V60 will feature two petrol-electric plug-in hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain options; the new T6 rated at 253kW and the similar T8 which ups power to 290kW.
Four other engine options will be offered, including the conventional T5 and T6 petrol engines, as well as the D3 and D4 diesel motors, but specifications are yet to be revealed.
Technology wise, the V60 has received the full suite of autonomous driver assists found in the other SPA-based models including the ‘Pilot Assist’ system which allows the car to automatically steer, accelerate and brake on “well-marked” roads up to 130km/h.

Detailed specifications and Australian availability is yet to be confirmed, but we expect to hear more once the car is publicly revealed in Geneva next month.
